Electric Volkswagen ID.4 Is World Car of the Year 2021 | Lewisville, TX

The Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV is on its way to the U.S. in late 2021, and when it arrives it’ll already have won some serious hardware. After input from more than 90 international journalists representing 24 countries, the VW ID.4 was named the World Car of the Year 2021.

This is the 17th year for the World Car of the Year awards and at the virtual award ceremony, the judges recognized the VW ID.4 for its driver-assist technologies as well as its status as an electric vehicle. The jury also appreciated that VW will be maintaining its software with over-the-air updates. The standard ID.Light assistant, which communicates things like vehicle charge and turn signals using a bar of colored LED lights, was also singled out for praise.

“The World Car of the Year award marks a great success for our entire ID. team,” said Thomas Ulbrich, Board Member for Development at the Volkswagen brand. “We have succeeded in developing a car that starts the system change to e-mobility in the world’s most important segment — compact SUVs — and offers excellent everyday usability. We are making innovative electric mobility in the volume market something that can be experienced by everyone.”

Volkswagen hopes to build and deliver about 150,000 VW ID.4 vehicles this year in the U.S., China, and Europe. To learn more about its availability in the area, contact us at Lewisville Volkswagen in Lewisville, Texas.
