Volkswagen ID.4 Production Kicks Off in Tennessee

The VW electric revolution has reached American assembly lines. In July, production kicked off on the new Volkswagen ID.4 at the automaker’s production facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This marks the first WV EV built in the United States — but certainly not the last.

Volkswagen plans to ramp production of the all-electric ID.4 up to 7,000 units a month by the end of the year. Output should only increase through 2023 — just like we expect the popularity of this fun-to-drive, affordable electric vehicle to skyrocket.

This EV is a true American product. Not only is it built in Tennessee, but most of its components and materials are sourced from states like Alabama, Ohio, Kentucky, and the Carolinas. Volkswagen has helped create some 3,000 supplier jobs by bringing production of the ID.4 to America.

“When we promised to bring Volkswagen EVs to the millions, it always included American workers building those EVs right here in Chattanooga,” said Volkswagen Chairman Thomas Schäfer. “We couldn’t be prouder to see that vision realized today with our ID.4 electric flagship rolling off the lines.”

VW will continue to grow its EV lineup through 2022, and that means exciting developments to come.
