New All-Electric ID.5 SUV Proves Volkswagen’s Commitment to Clean Energy | Lewisville, TX

As Volkswagen continues its march toward a cleaner, more eco-friendly future, the automaker has expanded its ID lineup with another all-electric entry. In November, the company unveiled the ID.5, the first coupe-style SUV in the brand’s ID family of pure-electric models.

Slotting alongside the ID.3 and ID.4, the newly launched ID.5 and ID.5 GTX are battery-powered E-SUV coupes that possess the latest electric powertrain technology from Volkswagen. They use over-the-air software updates to stay up-to-date on its intuitive driving assistance systems and digital memory functions.

What’s the difference between the VW ID.5 and ID.5 GTX? They use different powertrains and route power to the axles differently. The ID.5 is your standard EV setup with an electric motor in the rear, while the ID.5 GTX boosts performance with two e-motors, with each allocated to one of the SUV’s axles. This dual-motor configuration gives the ID.5 GTX responsive, efficient all-wheel-drive capability.

You’ll notice some design similarities between the VW ID.5 and the preceding electric SUV that Volkswagen released — the ID.4, which has already garnered plenty of praise for its eco-friendly design. What sets the all-electric ID.5 SUV apart is the dramatic slope of its roofline, which gives it a truly coupe-like profile.

The ID.5 is further proof that Volkswagen is committed to making the future of transportation cleaner and safer for everyone, implementing efforts like carbon-neutral manufacturing.
