Car_flooding

This is about the time we learn about flood-damage cars on car lots, flood claims, and flooding streets. Flash flooding is a big problem here, but so is the presence of cars with flood damage for sale in Texas. How do you protect yourself from a flooded car? Lewisville VW is talking about cars with flood damage.

Filing a Flood Claim

Should you file that claim for flood damage? Yes. Flood damage is actually a claim caused by a natural event. Flood claims do not count against you as a collision claim or at-fault accident will. You should call your company right away and file a claim because water damage left untreated can lead to a host of concerns: water in the engine, electrical damage, mold, and much more. If the car does flood, take photos when it happens. You always want a real-time account of what happened. Make sure you note the day the event occurred, especially if it was the result of a large weather event.

If your car is declared a total loss, you may have the option to keep the car and file for a salvage title. If you decide to take that route, you will not be able to add comprehensive insurance coverage on the vehicle in the future.

Recognizing Flooded Cars for Sale

The salvage title brings us to another issue. If a flooded car makes it to a used car lot, you want to make sure you don’t end up with it.

  • Look for evidence of water inside the car, under the car, and under the floor mats.
  • Does your nose detect mildew?
  • Do you notice any signs of rust under the hood or on the chassis?
  • Did you ask for a vehicle history report? We do our part to keep flooded cars off the lot by inspecting them and looking at the vehicle history report. Don’t do business with anyone else who won’t do the same.
