VW EVs Will Gain the NXP Battery Management System

Volkswagen EV Gains NXP Battery System | Lewisville, TX

With plans to offer multiple electric vehicles in the next few years, Volkswagen intends to add new technologies to these vehicles to make them more powerful. According to the automaker, one of the first innovations it wants to add is the NXP battery management system.

At the NXP Connects developer conference on Oct. 20, 2020, NXP CEO Kurt Sievers revealed that the company would be partnering with VW. The companies will work to integrate the NXP battery management system into the VW MEB electric vehicle platform.

This updated technology will ultimately increase the driving range and battery life of VW EVs. Currently, the VW ID.4 has an estimated range of 250 miles, so you can take daily commutes and small road trips without worrying about charging.* However, with the new system, this range could be even better and the SUV could be even stronger.

Head of Development for Vehicle Energy Supply and High Voltage Systems at Volkswagen AG, Dr. Holger Manz, also said, “Incorporating a functionally safe battery management system that can scale across many car models makes it easier to achieve the full power potential of a battery, optimized range, and the extension of the battery’s lifetime.”
