Talking Cars Are No Longer Science Fiction Thanks to the VW ID.4

Many outdated depictions of life in modern times would have you believe that our vehicles should be commuting through the clouds and making appointments on our behalf. While we’re still a few years out from flying cars, Volkswagen’s new ID.4 lets you communicate with your vehicle in ways previously unheard of.

Though you won’t be having conversations with your Volkswagen any time soon, VW introduced a sophisticated dash light feature into the new ID.4. The dash light fixture is comprised of 54 miniscule LED lights that illuminate in different hues to communicate vital information to the driver and passengers.

When you sit in the driver’s seat of the ID.4, the dash light row will display a series of blue and white LEDs to welcome you and indicate that you are free to commence your drive. Upon standing up to exit the car, the ID.4’s light bar displays the reverse color scheme to wish you well.

Volkswagen also included a number of other dash light communications, including alerts for incoming phone calls, safety warnings, battery charge level, and navigation. Many more messages are expected to be rolled out.
