Technological advancements fueled a massive surge in safety advancements on cars in the past few years. Volkswagen went right along with this trend, and today offers some of the best safety features you’ll find on cars, both foreign and domestic. Whether it’s added passive or active features, Volkswagen leads the pack when it comes to safety. Let’s take a look at some of the safety features to expect on 2016 models.

Automatic Post Collision Braking System

This VW-exclusive technology provides extra cautionary measures following an accident. This passive safety feature automatically deploys the brakes following a collision by using airbag sensors from VW’s ample number of airbags, which is an addition from previous years. This helps decrease any added damage to the vehicle or danger to the passengers by bringing the car to a halt. While you may never see this feature in action, it’s definitely something you’ll feel glad you have.

Forward Collision Warning with Emergency Braking

Perhaps you aren’t paying the best attention when you’re driving, and the traffic in front of you comes to an abrupt halt. Enter VW’s Forward Collision Warning with Emergency Braking. If you don’t start to brake in time, the Forward Collision Warning System provides a series of visual and aural cues to make you aware of impending danger. Hopefully, this provides enough time for you to brake manually, but if not, your VW will automatically brake for you and sidestep impending catastrophe.

Lane Assist

Lane Assist, also known as a Lane Departure Warning System, uses external cameras to ensure that a vehicle is staying in its lane at any speed above 40 miles per hour. If your car starts to swerve or move slightly out of its lane, the Lane Assist provides a series of audio and visual signals, much like the Forward Collision Warning, to alert you of your mishap. If that’s still not enough, the VW vehicle then employs gentle steering to get you back on track, but without overcompensation.

Dynamic High-Beam Headlights

Although older models of VWs had available Bi-Xenon headlights, 2016 models improve upon this with dynamic high-beam headlights. When activated, these beams actually move with the contours of the road, providing excellent vision at night in poorly lit areas. It’s definitely a godsend when you’re on an unfamiliar road or there are dangers of wildlife entering your path.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Volkswagens have had cruise control for several decades. However, it gets an added level of safety thanks to a new adaptive feature. With normal cruise control, the vehicle maintains a constant speed until deactivated. With new adaptive cruise control, the vehicle takes the reigns if you start to get too close to any motorists in front of you and applies the brakes as necessary.

Volkswagen puts every bit of effort and energy not only into entertainment features, great engines, and excellent exterior styling of its vehicles, but also advanced safety features. If you’re in the market for a new VW, you’ll never have to fear injury from lack of care. Instead, you’ll find yourself confident in case the worst happens.
