GiraffeAs the ninth-largest city in the United States, Dallas is full of stuff to do. This includes festivals, restaurants, eateries, sporting events, and museums. However, not all the places throughout the city tailor their events to children, and sometimes finding educational yet fun stuff for kids is taxing if you don’t know where to look. Luckily, this list takes the legwork out of it for you. Here are a few awesome places to take your kids where they’ll have a blast and learn something at the same time.

Dallas Zoo

As in most cities, the zoo is a foolproof place to take the kids so they’re entertained and learn about animals from around the globe. The massive 106-acre park has tons of exhibits and features including a children’s petting zoo, a giraffe feeding area, and even a creek for children to splash around in on a hot day. There also are two parts of the zoo to explore: ZooNorth and the Wilds of Africa. Each of these sections features animals such as endangered tigers, penguins, chimpanzees, lions, cheetahs, birds, and reptiles. There’s so much to do here, you’ll probably need two days to see it all.

Dallas Heritage Village

This area of the city features 38 fully restored buildings dating from 1840 to 1910. Restored thanks to an influx of donations and a dedicated historical society, Dallas Heritage Village attempts to recreate what life was like in Dallas before the Civil War. So the kids don’t get too bored, the tours are easily self-guided, and your children will have tons of fun learning about life through a turn-of-the-century doctor’s office, train depot, and schoolhouse. They also can get an old-fashioned sarsaparilla in the saloon or select a cool gift from the gift shop.

Dallas Children’s Theater

Located just north of downtown, Dallas Children’s Theater provides an interactive theater experience for adults and kids alike. With 11 plays rotating throughout the year, the theater provides kids with a chance to see their favorite play, whether it’s “Peter Pan” or the “Wizard of Oz.” In addition, the theater also offers classes to teach kids acting basics, and if they have a natural talent, there’s even the chance of inclusion in one of the upcoming productions.

Perot Museum of Nature and Science

Founded in 2012, this recent addition to the cultural and educational foundation of Dallas combines three former museums: the Science Place, the Dallas Children’s Museum, and the Dallas Museum of Natural History. Together, these three buildings are now the Perot Museum, providing tons of exhibits and displays for families. Attractions include dinosaur fossils, a science park, an outdoor fun area, and giant musical instruments.

No matter where you choose to go in Dallas, you’ll find a ton of memorable and educational experiences to delight the kids and keep yourself entertained at the same time. You’ll also find that a lot of these educational experiences are hands-on, which furthers learning and promotes absorption of facts and knowledge. If all goes well, your kids will ask you to go again, and you’ll find yourself happy to take them.
