Engine – Power
All Jettas come with front-wheel drive. For the standard engine, Volkswagen engineers selected a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder model capable of giving out 150 horsepower (hp) and 184 lb-ft of torque. All the 1.8T models step up to a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder that whips out 170 hp and the same torque as the standard engine.
The GLI Jettas have an upgraded two-liter four-cylinder turbo engine. Powerful and high performing, this engine cranks out 210 hp with 207 lb-ft of torque. As for the hybrid, it marries a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor to create 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Performance
The best fuel efficiency comes from the hybrid, which achieves up to 48 mpg on the highway. Among the other engines, the best EPA-estimated fuel economy is the 1.4T turbo, which gets up to 39 mpg on the open road.
Drivers who are familiar with earlier Jetta models will appreciate the new, more powerful base engine for 2016. Expect a smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable ride in any 2016 Jetta with the 1.8T Sport and GLI trims providing a sportier responsiveness for drivers.
